    WooCommerce status includes this warning for me under the section for your plugin:
    “The required SFTP functions are not available; ssh2_connect(), ssh2_auth_password(), ssh2_sftp(). Contact your hosting provider.”

    My hosting provider confirms SFTP is not enabled, but adds:
    “SFTP is only one of many ways to transport data and out of the available list would probably be considered the very last you’d choose because of the security implications of allowing a public facing site access to SSH functions. If it’s the only option they provide then that sounds suspicious.”

    We’re getting a 500 error when we run a report, it’s not a memory issue, and I’m just trying to determine if SFTP is the problem, whether there are other options, etc.

    Hi Moz, thanks for getting in touch. SFTP is just one of several methods of transferring files and if not in use (i.e. within a Scheduled Export configured to transfer a file via SFTP) can be safely ignored.

    A 500 error could be a process timeout issue which can be as low as 30 seconds on some hosting servers. I’d also check the fatal-errors.log files within /wp-content/uploads/wc-logs/ or via WooCommerce > System Status > Logs > fatal-errors… for any fatal error clues.

    If this 500 error persists it may be neccesary to use WP-CLI to complete the export as that circumvents the timeout limit issue. Here’s a link to our WP-CLI documentation:
