  1. hi michael,

i finally decided to say screw it and give up on WPeC 3.7 and install the 3.8 beta since it’s SOOOOO much better and i really don’t want to have to redevelop my store’s theme once it comes out. anyway i should have everything wrapped up in the next day or so with the theme and i was wondering if there was a beta version of the 3.8 uploader to play with or will the 3.7 one work? been afraid to try it as i don’t want to break anything.

    • Hi Charlie,

I’m pretty excited to get out of 3.7-turf too, more WordPress features to call on rather than re-inventing the wheel. Since the WP e-Commerce 3.8 upgrade script migrates all Products/Categories, etc. while leaving existing 3.7 Product/Categories details intact in their old tables you can import with Product Importer Deluxe then hit Store Upgrade from the Dashboard menu and it will bring across all 3.7 details into 3.8.

I’ve been testing this upgrader with Instinct for some time so if you run into any issues let me know via the forums and I’ll open a bug report. I’ll be looking at a native importer for 3.8 later this month.

  2. I have a 12.000 products CSV file (9Mb) to import.
    I also have a define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘128M’) with a clean WP and e-commerce installation.

When trying to import, the script stops after about 3 minutes. The splash end-of-task screen never appears. A few 500 books are imported.

I’ve been decreasing the number of products (books) step by step until about 2000 when the import finally worked completely.

I have been making different tests : updating records, importing from scratch.

Any suggestion ? Am I doing something wrong?

P.S. I tried to open a new topic in the Support Forum but it doesn’t work now. It was working this morning

    • Hi NicoWeb, I’ve added a site override in this latest release to extend the length of time that Product Categories Importer and Product Importer Deluxe run for to 600 seconds (10 minutes), this can be changed to 0 which will force the importer to keep running until it completes its task or consumes all available memory.

This change should resolve your timeout issue.

    • Thanks for the heads up on the Support Forum, I’ve installed some security Plugins to limit possible breaches via bbPress. Let me know if it’s still playing up for you. 🙂

  3. Hi Michael,

My CSV file is over 8Mb. Is there any way to upload via FTP ?

    • Hi Nicolas,

There is no limit imposed by Product Importer Deluxe on the size of CSV file uploaded, that said, there are standard PHP values within .htaccess to allow larger filesize uploads and longer form processing times. Open a Support Forum topic and I’ll drop the .htaccess snippets for you.

  4. Hi Ben, I’m getting there. I’ll have an early beta to send in the next few hours. I’ve rebuilt the Category parent linking function, as soon as your CSV file sticks I’ll make a Plugin update available. 🙂

  5. Michael…pulling your hair out yet with the csv file that I provided? Curious if you are making any headway…

  6. Hi Greg, I’m working to resolve a priority issue in the Product Categories Importer affecting Parent Categories, soon as this is out of the way I can switch.

I haven’t forgotten about custom fields support and hope to bring this out before the new year; how’s that for a commitment, I’ve got most of the functionality working just need to finalise the Product meta creation. I’ll send you an early release in the coming days as I’d be keen to hear how it goes.

  7. Michael,

I inserted tags and separated them by “|” but tags never showed up after successfully uploading the csv file. the products show up but the tags don’t show up.

    any thoughts.

    thank you,
    Robert Kapatais

  8. Hi Michael,

I have been waiting now since September for you finish the work you started with the custom columns importing to be applied to the product details page???

I have a very irritated client on the line wondering if you will ever finish this.

Come on, I realise you have other things to do but what’s the point of half doing something???

    Waiting your most urgent reply.

  9. Hi pavelevap, you sure can. The unique ID that Product Importer Deluxe uses is the SKU, all you need to do is make sure your SKU matches the Product within your WP e-Commerce store and provide the additional/new Product details in your CSV file.

For instance, the columns in your CSV file would be:

    SKU | Name | Category | Price | Quantity

  10. Hi, I have several hundreds items in my store. I would like to know if it is possible to update prices with this import plugin? Example – every product has its own catalogue ID (I can store it for example in custom field) and every month I would like to upload and replace prices (from my Excel – .csv) and quantity based on catalogue ID. I am not sure if is it possible with this plugin? Thank you for your answer.

  11. Hi Robert, I’ve been provided a sample CSV to reproduce the category creation issue and am working to resolve it and release a Plugin update for it 🙂 I’ll keep you in the loop here on this page 🙂

  12. I’ll take a look and get back to you if I have any questions. Thanks for the quick response. It’s nice to see developers have this kind of interaction.

Can I declare sub-categories and establish parent-child relationships with the included Product Category Importer for WP e-Commerce?

Roger that, when declaring a child Category ensure you use place an '>' (arrow) character between the parent and child. With the release of 2.6.5 you can drill down up to 3 levels deep, for instance:

  • Clothes>Men>Casual within the Category column of your CSV file will link a Product to Clothes, Men (as a sub-Category of Clothes) and Casual (as before).
