  1. Hi
I am using filezilla to manage my files mainly except for the downloadables folder which I can only upload to via wordpress I understand what your saying I will contact my hosting provider.
I thought there must be some way for me to change it myself though through my hosting dashboard.

    Cheers

    Dave

  2. thank you Michael,

    alright I am sold,

so the way this works, I would add that external link as a field in the database? what is the name of that (external link) field in wp-ecommerce mysql database.

And is the external image links imports are automated? I insert them in the csv file and “it’s a go”? I don’t have to go and assign them or insert them in the table after the import??

I know I am asking too many questions, and I know in the overall scheme of things- $95.00 is not a lot of money but if it does not serve my purpose then it’s a bad business decision. so bare with me, I am sold already, just trying to cover all my bases, I hate surprises!!

    Thank you

  3. Hi David, that htaccess file is there to stop site visitors from downloading your hashed files directly, WP e-Commerce ‘calls’ the hashed files as passes them as downloads through the Plugin getting around the .htaccess file restrictions.

I’d contact your hosting provider to get the permissions changed on your downloadables folder, are you using an FTP manager to upload your files, you cannot do this within WordPress.

  4. I think that would be perfect for the job but i cannot upload anything to my downloadables folder because there is a .htaccess file in there with this:
    order deny,allow

    deny from all

    allow from none

i tried everthing i could think of to edit or delete it but i failed so if you know of a solution i would be happy to buy your software

  5. Hi David, you can assign PDF’s to Products using Product Importer Deluxe, drop in the filename of each PDF within your CSV file under the File Download column and after you’ve imported your CSV file drop all of your PDF’s to /wp-content/uploads/wpsc/downloadables/, then fire up the opening screen on Product Importer Deluxe and hit hit ‘Rehash file downloads’, this will change all filenames from ‘SampleDocument.pdf’ to the correct hash filename (e.g. ‘6354ae3564c6354887c213’).

  6. Hi Robert, you’re limited by the HTML that you can add to a CSV file, give it a go and if you have any thoughts on how to add HTML (e.g. import from a separate text file perhaps) let me know.

The Buy Now button is linked to the External Link, if you provide an external link it will enable the Buy Now button on the Products Page. 🙂

  7. Hi

I have hundreds of pdfs to upload for producd file downloads will this plugin do the trick I just need to upload the pdfs and give them a price and category which version would you reccomend?

    Dave

  8. thanks Michael,

that’s great news! the thumbnails are covered. FANTASTIC!

Just need a little elaboration on the Buy Now button, is this something I do within your script??

As far as the html, it’s so limited, I can’t even put a simple href code??

    Thank you

  9. Hi Robert, here’s some answers:
    1) You cannot link directly to remote Product images but using the ‘import from external URL’ the Product importer can ‘grab’ images from an external source and manage them within your store.
    2) You can set the External Link field which will change your Add to Cart button to a Buy Now button and forward site visitors to your affiliate URL for each Product
    3) HTML descriptions are very limited due to the CSV format in use as well as the built-in HTML filters within WP e-Commerce on the Description field. I recommend plain text where possible.

    Hope this helps.

  10. Hi guys,

Looks great!! I am almost sold, but I have few questions

I have a database I received from a website, I am an affiliate to the them. My intent is to populate the database with the information such as manufacturer name, price etc.. the description etc.. the header would be a track-able link with my affiliate number to the original site. So if they buy from me I am good, if they go to the ?mother? site, it’s even better.

The database is about 70,000 items. I can re-set the database and create a csv file to match any required format and added a little bit at a time not to over whelm the system. The question is this:

    1) The product images are a field in the database that points out to the an external link i.e to the ?mother? site, Would I be able to use an external link in the database and have the image show up in my cart.
    2) I would like to have my visitor to click on a (product detail link) but the link would take them to an external site.
    3) Would I be able to use html code in the description to link to an external site for (more product details ); is html coding possible to create a header title or in the body of the description.
And which one of your products have that capability?

    Thank you,

  11. Hi Michael,

Thanks for the feedback. I am just trying to work out what plugin suits my need. I don’t need all the fields as I am going to use it to import products to an affiliate store.

In terms of the image upload. Is there some documentation on how this works ? How does it upload the images for each product.

If there is documentation available to read on this ?

    thanks

  12. here’s hoping 3.8 comes out soon.the current image issues really screw up my site, and after a year of messing with it i still have no way to by pass it nor have i found a fix for it. i guess i could use your custom fields to display the thumbnail but that won;t play well with the future 3.8 upgrade. guess i’m just stuck with the suck version until 3.8 hits.

    • Hi Charlie, support for importing custom fields has been added in 2.7 through integration with my Custom Fields Plugin for WP e-Commerce.

  13. Hi searchbrat, not at this time. I’m exploring the option of a test site that can be managed by guests, it’s a fine line but I’m working on it.

  14. Hi charlie, to skip the image uploader and manually specify the URL set the URL as your Image column within your CSV file and hit the ‘I’ve specified the image filename in the CSV’ option during the import process.

Good news, image cropping and resizing/scaling works a treat in WP e-Commerce 3.8, it uses the Media Library in WordPress and is a real step up from the existing 3.7 Product image support.

Roger that, when declaring a child Category ensure you use place an '>' (arrow) character between the parent and child. With the release of 2.6.5 you can drill down up to 3 levels deep, for instance:

  • Clothes>Men>Casual within the Category column of your CSV file will link a Product to Clothes, Men (as a sub-Category of Clothes) and Casual (as before).
