Here's a showcase of Plugin testimonials received from the Comments section which make our day. :)

Just wanted to say that I've tried one or two other import / export plugins for WC but Product Importer Deluxe is by far the best, particularly as it also comes with a license for Store Exporter Deluxe. I've found it very simple to use. It works with minimal configuration and it's saved me a huge amount of time. I must also add that Michael has been incredibly helpful too. Recommended.

Hello, iv been first using your plug in since it was first developed. I have 22 woocommerce stores with over 10,000 products a store. So i have a lot of importing to do. Once woocommerce came out with their own i started using theirs but its been no where as good as yours. With their plug in i can only import upto 50 products at a time and i keep getting duplicates that drive me annoying. I have to convert 1' 9MB excel file into 1,000 excel files. With your plug in i just keep importing the same excel file and it keeps importing without any doubles. Your picture placing is easier and i like your excel format. Its so much better than Woo's and i have so much to import. Thank you for your work and keep it coming :)

    Good Morning –

First I want to make note that my screens do not look like the ones shown here and I was wondering why. It does not say at the top of my importer page – Product Importer Deluxe for WP e-commerce. It just says Product Importer. I do get to it via Tools\Import\ Products
My problem at this point though is really just getting my CSV and images uploaded.
I have tried this several different ways and I seem to be getting inconsistent results.
Through Media / Add Media I uploaded a bulk of my image files. Then on the CSV file I created an Image field and populated it with the image name. When I import I select the check box “Are you Importing Images?” and then the radio button “Assigned an image column above for Product image filenames in the CSV file ” Once when I did this 4 of the 5 images on my test showed one did not. I checked and all the images were in the media file. Next I tried to use the “Will upload an image for each Product in the next step” and selected each image from my computer to upload. None of those images appeared.
I have over 1200 items to upload and am wondering what is the best way to go about this without having to manually set each image to each product.
I am sure it must be something I am doing wrong so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks Barb

  2. Jordan US Jordan

Can this plugin update products that already exist without producing dups?

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Jordan, sure can. Just tick the option ‘I am merging Product changes…’ at import time, Products are linked by SKU so as long as you’ve provided that column you’re set to go. 🙂

  3. jlevatino1122 US Jlevatino1122

Mike, purchased your product a few hours ago and I already have 51 products loaded in ideal format with multiple categories and descriptions. Very good product, best 95 dollars I’ve spent in a while. I have a question though, i am using the first option to upload images (with a pointer in the CSV file) . Do I need to use a different method for thumbnails to be created?

    Thanks

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi jlevatino1122, Product thumbnails are automatically generated if you’re using WP e-Commerce 3.8, just drop the filename of the Product image (e.g. product-1.jpg) and upload the original Product image into either the current month (if you’re using date-based indexing) within /wp-content/uploads/… 🙂

  4. Glen CH Glen

Hey There Michael, Great plugin 🙂

I’m having afew issues I was hoping you could help with:

Firstly, I’m uploading a file of 3,500 products which only have the information Name, additional description, price, tag, category and images…. When I upload my CSV file (via tools>import>ProdImporter), I get a massive list of dropdown boxes, a lot of them with blank information next to them…. Can I assume I must take out the unused columns such as Weight, Length etc in order to avoid these annoying blank entries ? I was hoping it would auto assign each cell to it’s relevant role within the spreadsheet… I’ve attached a pic here, I may be just being a total moron ! – http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff240/Glenkirkham/Picture4.png

Everytime I upload the CSV, my chrome/safari/firefow quit after around 15 minutes, do you have any solution for uploading thousands of products at the same time ?

Really appreciate your help mate, I hope to get this working real soon

    Cheers

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Glen, that just means the importer has been unable to read your CSV format, re-save it with Excel or your preferred spreadsheet editor as a ‘Windows CSV’. Once the CSV is in the correct format you’ll see the columns match up just like the screenshot. If you get stuck just send through your CSV and I’ll resave it for you. 🙂

  5. flayzeraynx US Flayzeraynx

    Hi michael
would you mind give me a date for the release the latest CSV file with WPML support. i am really look forward to it for finish the project that i have 🙁

    yahnk you

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi flayzeraynx, I’ve benched this feature for the current week as I’m focussed on finishing off a few other overdue Plugin updates across the suite. Paolo has introduced me to the WPML team and I’ll be working with them and Instinct to improve integration as well as add simple import support as soon as my queue clears. As soon as support is added it’ll be in a minor Plugin update and sent out, in the meantime I recommend manually creating Products for each language or holding out till closer to the new year. 🙂

  6. samantha VN Samantha

    hi,
great plugin. just having a small issue with importing images.. i am selecting the ‘will import at the next step’ and after i select the image and import, everything looks ok and says import successful but when i browse to the product there is no image.. any idea why this might be?

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Samantha, this is likely due to a permission error that is not allowing the importer to generate the Product images and thumbnails. Feel free to send through WP Admin, FTP and your CSV file.

  7. carolette US Carolette

Before I get this plugin can i add the image location ie photo1.jp into the csv file for automatic integration for my list of over 4000+ products? Or do I need to manually link each image to the product descriptions?

The image seems to show that I would have to manually identify each image. Please advise.

    Thanks,

    • carolette US Carolette

I think I found the answer to my question. All I have to do is add to the master CSV file upon upload. Is this correct?

      • ISabella AU ISabella

        Hi Carolette,
I am not Michael, just another user, but I may be able to help you in the meantime. I got it to work by adding a column called ‘Image’ to my csv and then putting the name.jpg in that column. So in your case, a column 4000+ cells long with each product image name. After import, I then simply do a ‘view source’ on the shopping cart image (which obviously isn’t showing yet, because it;s not been uploaded) to see where it’s calling the pictures from (something like, /wp-content/uploads/2011/12) and then I simply FTP all the images onto the server into that folder. I know this might sound obvious, but the structure of those folder are monthly, so if you do another import, say in January, pictures you upload today, might suddenly not show, because it would be looking for them in the /2012/01 folder after the January import, so then you’ll just need to move them across. Good luck!

        • ISabella AU ISabella

further to this, if your thumbnails don’t show, you might need to create a folder /wp-content/uploads/2011/12/thumbnails and copy all your pics in there as well. At least, that worked for me. Make sure your pics are small in size both dimensions and data for faster upload. Cheers.

          • Carolette US Carolette

so I tried this but I am still net getting my list imported. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I created my CSV file in excel. Should I transport it into my text editor instead? I am lost.. and tired…

            • ISabella AU ISabella

Is your csv file saved as a WINDOWS csv file?

            • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Carolette, feel free to send your CSV to me to verify. Excel usually does the trick, can follow this up via e-mail if you prefer. 🙂

              • carolette US Carolette

                I figured it out… Thanks.

          • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Isabella, WordPress generates its own thumbnails and unlike WP e-Commerce 3.7 doesn’t store them within a ‘thumbnails’ directory, instead they’re all in the same directory as the original. If a few Products have corrupted thumbnails after import I use Regen. Thumbnails to recreate them.

            http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

I prefer to use the external URL method for importing Product images (e.g. http://www.domain.com/images/image-1.jpg) that way there’s no chance of getting those monthly upload directories wrong.

By the way, you can turn off monthly indexing of Media within WordPress from the Settings > Media page within the WordPress Administration. 🙂

      • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Carolette, that’s correct, there are other Product image import methods available too that mean you can manage them via your CSV file directly (e.g. image filename and external URL). Take a look at the Plugin’s readme.txt for examples and step by step instructions. 🙂

  8. Chuck US Chuck

    Just purchased your plugin.

Question: Can html be used in the description and additional description fields?

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Chuck, HTML can be used in the Description field but from my understanding the Additional field strips out the majority of HTML inputted. Instead I recommend using a custom field for this. 🙂

  9. wstroh3740 US Wstroh3740

Good morning, I have purchased and uploaded and activated Product Importer Deluxe… however, it is not showing up in the dashboard under settings… or anywhere else, for that matter. Can you tell me what the issue is? Very important… we are in the last stages, the import of the CSV, of opening the site for business. Please advise as soon as convenient? Bill Stroh

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi wstroh3740, please find the import options under Tools > Import > Products from the WordPress Administration. 😉

  11. Isabella AU Isabella

Hi Michael, it appears that the AIOSEO options don’t show in the drop boxes if custom fields have been set up, is this right? I get all the custom fields showing in the drop boxes, but not the AIOSEO ones. Any ideas, how to get the AIOSEO options to show to line them up with the csv?
    Thanks for your help.

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Isabella, I’ll confirm this as I’m preparing a Plugin update this morning to sort out some merge import issues as well as improve the Product image import process; support for pre-uploaded Product images via Media Library and an early release of WPML-support. 😉

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Isabella, just confirming that you have All in One SEO Pack activated as well as WP e-Commerce 3.8 and above. I’m adding WP e-Commerce 3.7 in the next Plugin update. 🙂

      • ISabella AU ISabella

Thanks Michael, yes you’re right. Forgot to turn it on for this site! Question though, it appears that the SEO columns don’t merge INTO an existing import, only a fresh one. Is there a way to get them to get added? Thanks for your ongoing help. 🙂

        • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Isabella, this should be working. Let me confirm this. 🙂

  12. Joel SE Joel

I’ve got the plugin to work, a SUPERB plugin SWEET!

Now i have a problem with 2 things:

    1. The first thing im facing trouble with, is the product images. I upload them from an external URL and all works fine so far. But when im viewing my store, the images does not appear on category-view, but if i go inside a productpage, the image is there and works perfect. I need to go to each product and “Manage productimages” and then hit “Use as product thumb”, why, do i need to do this on all my thousand products? Then its worthless, sorry :-/

    2. The second problem is when im trying to import a External Link Text, the value i enter here, does not appear on the products settings for this field. It’s like the information does not get imported.

I would be very glad if i could get an answer on my problems.

    Thanks in advance!

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Joel, I’ve sorted the external link text issue in the latest Plugin update. I’m looking at how WP e-Commerce reads the Product images under the various views; unfortunately there’s no single standard so I’ll have a play locally and release a minor Plugin update to correct this. 🙂

      • Paul GB Paul

        Michael

There seems to be an issue with the product thumbnails on this plugin. The images upload fine, but it does not automatically assign it as a thumbnail. You have to go through each product manually and click ‘use as product thumbnail’

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

  13. Joel SE Joel

    Gahhhh…!
I just bought this Product Importer Deluxe but im using WP E-commerce 3.8.7.2, and probaly thats the reason this module doesn’t work, am i right?

If yes, when will there be an upgrade for this module to work with the latest WP E-commerce?

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi Joel, 3.8.7.2 is just a minor Plugin update, I’ll be confirming support in the following few days. If you are looking for the import option please open Tools > Import > Products from the WordPress Administration. 🙂

      • Joel SE Joel

Please, have a look at my latest comment above. I really need your help in this.

  14. lucas US Lucas

Michael when I load multiple images using a vertical pipe to separate the image names in the CSV, it always results in my images laying out incorrectly as shown here:http://www.screencast.com/t/7msSgDIZU5

Is this a known issue with the Product Importer? Or is this an issue with my site’s code?

    • Michael Visser au Michael Visser

Hi lucas, I’m not aware of this issue affecting customers or my own test sites. Please reset to the Twenty Ten Theme and see if this is resolved, if so, then it’s likely your WordPress Theme at fault. 🙂

Sure can, just put a '|' (vertical pipe) character between each item, currently all of the above are supported. In a near future Plugin update multiple file downloads will also be included.
