Worked for me after days of trying everyone else's ideas.

laptop with onboard wireless-b/g, PCMCIA with wireless-N
wireless-b/g router with asdl modem connected to another wireless-N router (Fonera, so I can share broadband and get free wireless access when I'm out and about). There's also a networked Belkin USB hub for printer, webcam, film scanner, usb drive etc and a third wireless router - just because I can!

MY equipment has all fixed IP's, wife, visitors etc can have dhcp allocations.

Both connections (at same time) now show up as friendly home networks!
