GPS Monitoring for Sony Ericsson Xperia

Terminator Main screen

I am now onto my second Sony Ericsson Xperia, this time the black model, I still wonder where my previous Xperia is now… I bet they love it too. Before I lost it I was looking into recovery solutions in the event of accidental loss or theft, a little too late for me. Now I’ve got it covered.

Sprite Software have released Terminator for Windows Mobile which works brilliantly with the Sony Ericsson Xperia taking advantage of the A-GPS module for accurate location lat/long positioning.

How it works is Terminator runs a background system application that listens for a specially formatted SMS from someone’s mobile you’ve setup as a Trusted person during setup. All of this is silent and there is no system record or visual/audible alert that these SMS’s are coming/going.

In the event one of these Trusted messages comes through Terminator will respond to that sender with what data was requested. Examples of command are:

  • Clear: Terminator will remove all personal data from internal memory and storage card returning it to factory default. There will be no trace of you on that phone. This is ideal when selling your Xperia.
  • GPS: Terminator requests GPS (lat/long) from the internal GPS module and gives a website link to see it on Google Maps. I found this took about a minute to respond with lat/long data showing exactly where my mobile was left.
  • Lock: Activates the device lock using the Terminator authentication password or sets a new password
  • Query: Terminator harvests current phone data including phone tower, IMSI, IMIE, recent outgoing call log. All the ammo you need to start an investigation.
  • Wipe: Terminator basically nukes itself. All internal memory and storage card data is erased, a hard reset is required to make this a functioning Xperia again.

I’m annoyed, $1000 annoyed, that I didn’t have this software installed and running. If I did I likely would have recovered the device… download Terminator.
